About Department

The Department of Statistics was established in June 1975. It is the second oldest department for the subject in the jurisdiction of Shivaji university Kolhapur, with the subject being taught up to B.Sc. III level. Since its formation, it has always striven to achieve academic excellence and nurture statistical interests. The department has a dedicated team of qualified staff members who actively participate in teaching courses and research. In addition, various guest lectures, seminars, workshops, statistics quiz, group discussion, case study report, remedial course, oral quiz, study tour activities are organized throughout the year to encourage the spirit of learning and development. Also, students actively participate in the activities organised by Shivaji University Statistics Teachers’ Association (SUSTA)


The Department has well equipped laboratories with sufficient number of computers, scientific calculators and internet facility for both students and staff. The computer system supports statistical software like R, Python, SPSS. There is a good collection of books in department with latest titles in various areas of statistics. Students work on real-life projects related to latest topics, humanity, social sciences, commerce, management, environmental science, agricultural, medicine and pharmacy etc. using MS-Excel and R software. All students are encouraged to participate in academic/ non- academic inter – collegiate evets for their overall development.

- To train students to achieve sound knowledge in statistics and enable them to choose a profession to transmit and utilize the subject matter for the well- being of the society.
- To contribute to the overall objectives of the institute through excellence education in statistics.
- To encourage students to take post-graduation studies in statistics.


QUALITY POLICY

To set high level of excellence in imparting a great deal of knowledge of statistics to even the poorest and most backward students through a continual improvement of standard of human resources, teaching by using basic structures, support services and academic facilities provided by the college.


QUALITY OBJECTIVES

1) To Provide continually the best training in statistics to all students including the poorest and most backward.
2) To encourage the students to develop the research attitude through objectives.
3) To make students aware of the application of Statistics in industries, agriculture, medical research, population studies etc.
4) To provide extra computer training to the students.
5) To persuade our students to participate actively in curricular and extracurricular activities.
