About Department

The Department of Chemistry was established in 1958 to impart basic and advanced knowledge of chemistry and is one of the major departments in the college. This subject is taught from B. Sc. To M. Sc. level. Since June 2013, we have been offering the PG Course in AnalyticalChemistry and Organic Chemistry from June 2021 and a Ph. D. facility, with a laboratory recognized by Shivaji University, Kolhapur. In addition to regular teaching, the faculty is also engaged in research activities with projects funded by UGC and has published many research articles in national and international journals.


The department has an excellent infrastructure with three spacious laboratories, an instrument room, a balance room, and instruments such as UV-visible spectrophotometer, spectrophotometer, colorimeter, high voltage electrophoresis apparatus, TLC unit, Soxhlet apparatus, pH meters, conductivity meters, digital polarimeters, potentiometers, digital balances, etc. The department is also well equipped with several audio and visual teaching aids such as charts, slides, films, models, overhead projector, and slide projector. The department offers consultancy services to small-scale industries located in the area. A separate departmental library is available. The department also conducts self-financing various short-term courses. The current capacity for this course depends on the specific course on a non-grant basis. Admission to all the seats is given strictly on merit through an entrance examination conducted by the Shivaji University, Kolhapur and the eligibility for the course is B. Sc. Chemistry.


The department also conducts several self-financing short-term courses, which is indigenously designed to accommodate to the needs of pharmaceutical industries
