Department of Zoology
 

The Dept of Zoology was established in June 1958 and the subject offered at the principal level for graduation in June 1966.It is today being  taught from XI to B.Sc.III classes with provision for M.Phil studies also available from 2007  the Ph.D course was also been started from 2013 and our faculty being recognized . Four  students for Ph.D and one Student for M.phil registered under them. Shivaji university recognized laboratory  also available .The department has  advanced equipments such as computer microscope ,Spectrophotometer, Photomicrography unit , Microtomes  and field photography units with advanced telelens a research microscope with a trinacular head etc.

The department is also actively engaged in research and many research papers have been published by the faculty.

The department also runs the `Eagle Nature Club’ affiliated to WWF-India, since 1989 and has been awarded the `Best Nature Club’ recognition in 2008. Through this club, the department also runs the Vermicomposting and sericulture projects since 1999 that is taken advantage of by local farmers through the consultancy services of the department. Several lectures on Vermicomposting have been delivered by the faculty to local farmers and school students in the tehsil.

The department also has a well stocked museum of rare animal specimens and plastic embedded specimens – a unique feature. There is also an animal house available since 1977. A separate departmental library is also available and the department also conducts self financing short term courses.
