Department of Pollution

The Department of Pollution was established in 1979. In 1982, the laboratory was recognised by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) as a `Standard Laboratory’ and in 1986 by Govt. of India as the `Standard Laboratory’ under the Environment Protection Act 1986. The department has produced many M. Sc. (T & D), M. Phil and Ph. D students. Many research papers and books have also been published from the department and it has successfully completed several major and minor research projects. The department also organised international and national conferences / workshops and undertakes consultancy projects.

The department has almost all equipments and instruments required for pollution studies such as spectrophotometer, pH-meter, conductivity meter, nephelometer, Eckman dredge, shallow and deep water samplers, plankton nets, Sedgewick-Rafter cell, Kjeldahl distillation assembly, Lux meter, inverted microscope, air pollution studies chamber, electronic and monopan balances. The library of the department is rich with more than 538 books written by Indian and foreign authors. A separate departmental library is available.The Central Library is rich with more than 538 books of Pollution, written by Indian and foreign authors.



  1. B.Sc. II (Combination: Chemistry-Botany-Pollution)   as Interdisciplinary subject (IDS)
  2. B.Sc. III in Pollution as Restructured subject
  3. B.Sc. Degree in Botany-Pollution
  4. Compulsory Course at all B.Sc. II and B.C.S. II levels in Environmental Studies.
